Photos: mega hike mission to Karamea Bend Hut
A few snaps from my recent overnight adventure into the depths of Kahurangi National Park.
“I’m only happy when it rains,” goes the 1995 hit song by Garbage. Similarly, I’m only happy when I’m on the West Coast. (Or in Northland, but that doesn’t fit quite as well). It’s been a long time since I was in one of my two favourite NZ regions. To fix this, I went on a 30km+ mega hike over the Arthur Range, just so I could set foot in the West Coast Region. I know I could’ve just driven from Nelson to Reefton, got out the car and said “Yay, I’m on the West Coast!”, but there’s no physical satisfaction in just driving somewhere. So, I walked.
I shot a lot of video content on this tramp; a tramp that proved to be a full-on day, ending with a night-hike. I hope to have that up for you soon, but in the meantime, here’s some pics from the outward journey.
